Biography
Davor Reba is a Croatian clarinettist and teacher, and the organizer of the Virovitica International Music Meeting. He first studied with Giovanni Cavallin — after whom the VIMM competition is named — then earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees with Josip Tonžetić at the Zagreb Academy of Music, before specializing with Walter Boeykens in Antwerp. As a student he took first prize at the final clarinet students’ competition held in former Yugoslavia.
He has given solo recitals at home and abroad with pianists including Ljubomir Gašparević, Darko Domitrović, Veljko Glodić, Marina Pletikosa, Martina Cukrov, Vlasta Gyura, Lana Bradić and Anne Marie Wuyts, and appeared as soloist with the Zagreb Philharmonic, the Croatian Chamber Orchestra and the Zadar Chamber Orchestra. His chamber-music partners range from the ensemble Cantus, the Zagreb String Quartet and the Porin Quartet to the Arundo Donax clarinet quartet and the Crowind quintet; he co-founded the Wind Octet ZF and the septet Ad libitum ZF.
A full member of the Zagreb Philharmonic since 1997 and its solo clarinettist since 2001, he has toured Europe, Japan and Mexico with the orchestra and represented Croatia in the World Philharmonic Orchestra in Paris in 2006. An associate professor at the Academy of Music in Zagreb, he has led regular summer seminars in Pučišća on the island of Brač, serves on the juries of national and international competitions, and is one of the founders of the Croatian Clarinet Society.
